چکیده

Theoretical studies have assumed that the hydrostatic pressure in anaerobic digesters is likely to have a negatively influence on the effectiveness of the biochemical processes in the bioreactors and consequently on the biogas production. These assumptions made the authors approach this interesting topic and carry on experimental studies aimed to reveal the methanogens response on the hydrostatic pressure in order to allow designers adopt the most effective technical solutions in designing and construction of the biogas reactors. This paper has as a main scope to investigate the influence of the hydrostatic pressure on the microorganisms producing biogas. For this scope, experimental researches for anaerobic digestion of organic slurry have been carried out in stainless steel pressure vessels which were set for four different conditioning pressures. A comparative study of the methanogens loading for the initial sample and for the samples conditioned under various work pressure has been recorded and analyzed.

Anaerobic Digestion for Reduction and Stabilization of Organic Solid Wastes During Space Missions: Laboratory Studies

The technical feasibility of applying anaerobic digestion for reduction and stabilization of the organic fraction of solid wastes generated during space missions was investigated. This process has the advantages of not requiring oxygen or high temperature and pressure while producing methane, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and compost as valuable products. High-solids leachbed anaerobic digestion e...

Effects of extracts derived from pistachio by-products on ruminal fermentation and methane production

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of different doses of pistachio by-product (PBP) extracts supplemented with alfalfa hay (AH) or barley grain (BG) on microbial fermentation in an in vitro fermentation system. The total extracted phenolic compounds were 36.96, 65.78, 67.02 and 8.85% and total extracted tannin contents were 37.11, 59.64, 56.87 and 7.55% when PBP was extract...

Control of Rumen Microbial Fermentation for Mitigating Methane Emissions from the Rumen*

The rumen microbial ecosystem produces methane as a result of anaerobic fermentation. Methanogenesis in the rumen is thought to represent a 2-12% loss of energy intake and is estimated to be about 15% of total atmospheric methane emissions. While methanogenesis in the rumen is conducted by methanogens, PCR-based techniques have recently detected many uncultured methanogens which have a broader ...

The Effects of Use Medicinal Plants on Rumen Fermentation Parameters in Ruminants

Rumen is a persistent and specific ecosystem consists of bacteria, protozoa and fungus where feed fermentation takes place in it. Produced Hydrogen in rumen can be used in the synthesis of the volatile fatty acids and the microbial protein and its excess would be eliminated through the production of Methane by methanogenesis. Nutritionists have tried to find ways to decrease loss and energy and...

Investigating the Effects of Cadmium on Rumen Microbial Fermentation and Nutrient Digestibility Using Gas Production

Effects of different levels of cadmium (0.1, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 mg/l of culture medium) were evaluated using gas production technique. In the glass vials used to measure gas production 30 mg of buffered rumen fluid (2:1 ratio of rumen fluid: buffer) poured in glass and cultured at 38.6 temperature. Volume and pressure of produced gas were measured with syringes and digital pressur...
